HTC Hero comes to India – Awesome

Oh well, for those who love touch screen, this phone is going to be a treat. And HTC guyz didn’t waste any time in launching this in India as well after much hyped launch in US. This phone boasts of great looks, great UI interface, great for social networking lovers and even great for those who love Android platform as OS. And yeah for iPhone haters it offers a great option.

To give an overview, iPhone 3G has failed in India, or at least very close to fail. It doesn’t offer a few features which most of the consumers here feel a must have. No Sms forwarding, not even 5 MP camera, no radio, lot of features that require phone to be unlocked (extra money), monthly internet services cost heavily from airtel/vodafone, all this when you are paying more than 30K for a phone? To add to the irony, iPhone recently announced great cuts in its price in US, which again is not applicable for India!!! Its strong point, surfing internet over 3G and a lot of apps will not be useful as there is no 3G in India yet (spectrum woes still continue). And if we listen to a lot of users in US, they now are getting bored with iPhone OS, as there are not much customizing options, every iPhone looks exactly the same as the other one!! Its a huge minus for some people.

And then there comes HTC touch, fully featured touch phone, offers very high customizing options (facebook/twitter/in-built youtube appln), and power of Android OS, which beyond any doubt holds a wonderful future, it also has 5MP camera, 3.5mm earphone jack, style-wise and look-wise it leaves iPhone behind, and it is available right away in Indian market (again around 30K price band), has radio FM. Its new SenseUI is amazing to use.

As per gizmodo, its teflon coating makes iPhone look like a junk. Also, this year it beats iPhone in T3 gadget awards, for the first time in years some phone has done that. Above all, it offers multitasking, so you could be browsing 5 things at a time, reading twitter updates, checking latest score, checking mail, which you can’t yet do on iPhone, you need to do 1 thing at a time.

Though, it doesn’t offer a matching hardware to support a really good OS, still it offers a great piece and a great alternative to iPhone. But one thing is sure you would love showing it off in public ;)

Dealers in India can be found on HTC website.

As per press statement by HTC on launch:

“The HTC Hero will be available at a market operating price of Rs. 34,600/- in Maharashtra and Rs. 31,990/- in the Rest of India at all leading authorised HTC resellers across the country.”
